Action and Panning

Inntroduction

In Tv mode on the camera you control the shutter speed. Shutter speed is how long the camera lense stays open when you take a picture. Shutter speed can create a sense of time because it captures an action or motion into a still image. You can get a picture of someone running and have the background blurry showing you that that person is running fast and creating a sense of time. Also if you get a landscape picture of the stars and have it to a very slow shutter speed you can capture the stars moving in the sky also creating a sense of time.

Shutter Speed: What is it and how to calculate?

What is Panning?

Panning is when you move your camera with the object making the background motion-blurred. This isolates the object and creates a sense of speed with the blurred background.

Here are some examples of panning where I followed the object capturing motion and blurring the background

When should you use short shutter speed

You should use short shutter speed when you want freeze fast action or prevent blur from camera shake. For example if your taking pictures of a car driving or somebody playing a sport and you want to freeze the action and moment.

Here are some example of short shutter speed.

When should you use long shutter speed.

You should use long shutter speed when you want to leave light trails or smooth out stuff like a water fall. It is also good for night photography and taking pictures of scenery given if your camera is stable.

Here is one example of long shutter speed.

Featured Image

I put this as my featured image because I like how it is capturing motion. It is also making the bacground blurry isolating Elliot running.
