My Photography Journey: An Introduction

I enjoy photography. It has been an interest of mine for quite some time. There is something about capturing small moments of life that are fulfilling. I have spent some time traveling and have gradually grown to learn what good and satisfying pictures look like, versus those that are to be desired. I still have much to learn about how cameras work and what it looks like to use editing software.

I am familiar with a few different types of cameras. I have consistently used both an iPhone 12 and an iPhone 14 Pro. Along side those, I have gone through my fair share of fixed-focus disposable cameras and have recently been using a Yashica Electro 35mm rangefinder film camera.

My goals for taking photography class are to learn more about how a camera works. To learn what the settings mean and how I can manipulate the camera to create unique pictures. I hope to learn a bit about how editing software works and to be able to get familiar with some. Finally, I would like to learn what people like to see. I would like to create photos that are appealing to the eye.

Dried hydrangeas at a childhood place near and dear to my heart. It was the middle of winter. The red on the siding of the cabin is bold and makes the dried golden brown flowers stand out. The photo was taken with an iPhone 12.

The Cologne Cathedral. The architecture on this building was immaculate and very hard to capture. The extensive detail was breathtaking. The photo was taken with an iPhone 14 Pro.

Driving to Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. I love mountains. In this picture, you can see the Swiss Alps peeking out behind the village homes and local forest. The vehicle frames the homes accentuating the European architecture. The photo was taken with an iPhone 14 Pro.

On a high cliff above Neuschwanstein Castle. I love the contrast of the blue sky and the green trees on the mountain. Both the sky and mountain appear textured. The patches of cliff on the mountain indicate high elevation. My favorite part of the photo is the tiny man, or woman, paragliding to the center left. The photo was taken with an iPhone 14 Pro.

Delaware state. Featuring a seagull searching for a nearby child to harass in order to partake of a Cheeto. The photo is simple with lots of blue sky. The bird holds a bold place. The photo was taken with an iPhone 14 Pro.

I did not pick these peaches. They are beautiful subjects though. I took this photo at my home in our small orchard. It was a happy sunny day. The long building on the side helps to lead the eye to the focal point. The sharp contrast of the green leaves and the bold golden orange peaches make them stand out even more. I took this photo with an iPhone 14 Pro.
