What is ISO, White Balance, and Bracketing? ISO Changes how sensitive the camera is to light. Lower ISO = less sensitive…but…less “grain.” Higher ISO = more sensitivity…but…more "texture." White Balance adjust color temperature to make whites look white and affect overall tone. There are six common modes that you can set your camera to, to do that. They are: Tungsten (or incandescent), Fluorescent, Daylight, Cloudy, Shade, and Flash. Bracketing is when you take multiple shots of the same scene at different exposure values. It ensures at least one of the images has a good exposure (-1, 0, +1...). We use a term called color temperature. This describes the tone of the photo. Brighter or whiter photos are colder, and more yellow or calm pictures are warmer.
The Exposure Triangle: The exposure triangle is a concept used in photography. It is an illustration that helps us remember how the camera takes in and receives light.
On a camera there are several settings that can set certain programs. If you want the camera to set your Aperture you put it on AV mode. You will have to set the shutter speed manually. If you want the camera to set your Shutter Speed you put it on TV mode. Then you will have to set the aperture manually. If you want to set both manually you put it on Manual Mode, then you will set both the Aperture and Shutter Speed.
These pictures above are examples of only changing the ISO. For some of these pictures the lens was open too long so the photo is a bit too bright. Others the lenses wasn't open long enough so the pictures is pretty dark.
The photos above, of the plant, are showing white balance. White balance has several different settings: 1. Auto, 2. Daylight, 3. Shade, 4. Cloudy, 5. Tungsten Light, and 6. White Fluorescent Light. Each set of those pictures use each setting, in order. The photos were taken in different locations, and you can see how one setting worked for one location and didn't work for another.
These pictures are above of various subjects are showing bracketing. Each photo was taken with a different EV value and you can see the color difference in each one. The values were 1, -1 and 0.
