Shutter speed can either freeze or blur motion. Panning is a technique when the subject is moving and in focus and the background is motion blurred. A short shutter speed is used when trying to freeze motion like in a sports game. A long shutter speed is used when trying to make the movement more blurry.

These pictures have a long shutter speed, so it made the movement blurry. In both pictures, you can see that the ball is blurry because it was moving when the picture was taken.

These pictures demonstrate panning because the background is blurry, but the subject is clear.

These pictures demonstrate short shutter speed because it stops the movement and isn’t blurry. I chose the dog as my featured picture. I mostly chose it because it has the most color. I thought the colors in the other pictures were pretty boring.
