Balance

Balance gives the picture a sense of stability and harmony. Symmetric balance has both sides holding equal weight. It gives a more peaceful feeling to the picture. Asymmetric balance is more flexible and gives a less calm and stable feeling.

Both of these pictures are of my cousins at the Ephrata Fair. The picture on the left demonstrates subject balance because my cousin is in front with his pig and there is a girl behind him with a pig. The picture on the right does not demonstrate subject balance because the subjects aren’t far enough apart.

The picture on the left demonstrates color balance because there is a pop of yellow in the front.

The picture on the right is the featured image. It demonstrates conceptual balance because there is a shiny piece of metal and a rusty piece of metal. The picture itself isn’t that interesting, but there is a clear difference between the rust and the shininess.
