Framing

Framing is using a foreground object to create a frame around the subject. Using framing creates depth in the picture and draws the viewer’s eye to one point. To use framing in a picture, you need to find an object like a tree branch or window to create a frame around the picture on 2 or more sides.

The picture on the left uses framing because of the trees and the one on the right uses a phone screen to create a frame.

These two pictures are not as good of examples for framing, but they still kind of work. The flower on the right is being framed by the net, but the net is in the middle of the flower and not fully around it. The picture on the left is a reflection of the car mirror on the window. It puts a frame around the sunset, but the speedometer in the background is kind of distracting.

The picture on the left uses framing because of the fence, but the subject isn’t really interesting. The picture on the right uses the dog leash handle as a frame, but the bright orange leash is kind of distracting.

Neither of these pictures have frames.

In both of these pictures, the tree leaves frame the subject.

The picture on the left uses the window as a frame. The picture on the right is the one I chose as the featured image. The frame is a roll of scotch tape. I chose it because the frame is kind of blurry and not distracting from the picture. It helps focus in on the sunset.
