Introduction
Lighting Directions
There are three different light directions that a photo can be taken. First being front light, side light, and lastely back light.
- Front light: clear, even, open feeling
- Side light: framed, textured, dimensional.
- Back lighting: glowing. Mysterious, emotional
Shadows and Moods
- Shadows define shape and depth.
- Hard shadow: tension or intensity.
- Soft shadows: calm or romantic tone.
- Light reveals: shadows define.
Front-lit

These two images are both front-lit and to answer the first question is how does lighting direction affect your subject’s tone? It affects it by making the subject more clear and under focus. The one on the left is taken in the library and the subject is my uggs. The photo on the right is in the hallways and shows the senior classes as the subjects.
Side-lit

These two pictures were taken in the library and the lighting was considered side lighting, because the light was coming from the window. In both of the picture the subject are plants, and are framed by the window pain.
Back-lit

These pictures show the art of back lighting. The photo on the left is showing how the plant is back-lit and how the lighting affects the mood of this photo. The photo on the right is back light and it is in the hallway at the bathrooms.
Shadow-lit

These pictures show the art of having shadows as your subjects. In the one on the left is me and Megans shadows in the hallway. The one on the right is showing the chair leg as the subject. And also it shows the power of the shadows. The photo on the left shows the mosr meaning and emotion because you can’t see the people but it shows the friendship of two friends.
