Framing is when a photographer adds a foreground to a picture to highlight the subject and add interest. If done correctly, this foreground will make the viewer (you!) look at a picture longer. It’s good for a photographer to use framing because it will grab and keep a viewer’s attention. To frame a picture, you just have to look around for something to frame the picture. Anything from an actual picture frame, to tree leaves can act as a frame.

This picture is a mediocre use of framing. While the frame brings the viewers eye farther into the frame, the actual subject (the books) aren’t very engaging.

This is a better example of a framed picture. The viewer needs to look past the lines to see the trees and sunset. It makes the picture more engaging/ complex.

In this picture, the car frames the person inside the car. It draws the viewer in.

This picture really shows framing because it is done twice. Both the curtains and the window act as frames.

This picture is a little worse then the one before because the framing looks a lot less intentional. If the railing was more engaging, it might be a better picture.

This picture is another example of framing. The lines on the window again draw the viewer to look at the trees.

The doorframe works to highlight happening inside. I also think the girl in the front adds to the picture, but i wonder if it would’ve been better without her.

This picture, although it shows framing, could’ve been a bit better. The lighting is poor and it’s slightly tilted. It almost looks unintentional.

The frame (volleyball net) in this picture brings your eyes straight to the subjects. It makes you feel like you’re a part of the action.

The black frame definitely draws your eyes into the picture.

This picture is framed by the lion decal on the door. It definitely serves its purpose and highlights the subjects.

I set this image as my featured image because the frame feels very intentional, and it makes the picture. Without the frame this would be a very lack luster image. It makes the subject more interesting and would make the viewer look further into the picture to look at her.
