Balance

Using balance in photography adds a lot of stability and harmony. Balance will draw your eyes through the image and make the viewer enjoy it longer.

These pictures are both an example of symmetric balance because the same weight is on both sides.

These images are both examples of conceptual balance because they show a contrast of nature and man-made objects. The plants are almost trapped in the concrete.

These pictures both show asymmetric balance. On the top, although the weight is uneven, it works together to create a balanced look. On the bottom, it’s not a very good show of asymmetric balance. The picture ends up looking jumbled and uninteresting.

This picture shows color balance because the darkness is around and all the color is in the middle. This balances the picture and adds interest.

This picture also shows color balance. The background is dark, and the color is balanced out because of it. There’s also a bit of dark with the candle bottom, which adds even more balance to the picture.
