Layering in photography is when the photographer shows more then one ‘layer’ in a picture. By including something in the foreground, something in the background, and something in the middle, it creates a picture with depth and makes it more immersive/interesting. It creates a story and engages whoever is looking at the picture.

This is a good use of both layering and framing. It feels immersive and interesting because you can see so much background.

This picture tells a story through the layers. You know it’s a gym because of the multiple sports shown.

The layers of busses show just how big they are, which adds depth.

This is a good demonstration of layering, even if it isn’t a great picture. You can see the depth very well.

This one can be a demonstration of either framing or layering. It makes it clear how far the sunset is away because of the trees, and how far the trees are away because of the grass.

This is another good example of layering, the horizon seems more distant.

This is another good example of layering. It’s very engaging, and there are many subtle layers.

This is a decent use of layering. The items make it clear how far back each thing is. Seeing the entire room layer by layering is engaging.

This is another good use of layering, it shows balance as well, but the focus is the cars going further and further away.

This picture could also be considered a framing picture, but its more of a layering picture. The leaf shows how far away the subject is.

This is another good use of layering and the eye follows the cars.

This is definitely my most engaging layering picture. The layering makes it so that you can see 2 perspectives at once. It draws the viewer in so that they can look at everything.
